How to Reopen a Missed Inspection

Everything you need to know about completing missed inspections

Written by Zach Kahan

Visitt allows Admins and Managers to reopen and complete missed inspections under specific conditions. This gives teams more flexibility to maintain consistency and accountability across recurring inspection schedules.

How It Works

You can reopen an inspection that was missed directly from the Closed Inspections tab. Once reopened:

  • It moves to the Open Inspections tab.

  • It remains open for 7 days from the moment it's reopened (not customizable).

  • Completing it will require a Late Reason.

Reopening Rules

To ensure consistency, inspections can only be reopened under all of the following conditions:

  • Frequency: Only available for inspections with weekly or higher frequency. Hourly and daily inspections cannot be reopened.

  • Timing: The inspection must have been missed within the last 3 months.

  • Sequence: You cannot reopen a missed inspection if a newer inspection of the same type has already been completed or missed. For example, if you're in Week 3 and Week 2 has already been completed or missed, you can't reopen Week 1.

Admins always have access to reopen missed inspections. Managers must be granted the "Reopen missed inspections" permission by an Admin.

Step-by-Step: Reopen and Complete a Missed Inspection

  1. Go to the Inspections page and click the Closed Inspections tab.

  2. If the inspection meets the criteria above, you'll see a Reopen option in the list.

  3. Click Reopen.

  1. The inspection will now appear in the Open Inspections tab.

  1. Complete the inspection as usual.

  2. At completion, you'll be required to enter a Late Reason.

  1. The inspection will be marked as Completed (Late) in your reports.

Reporting and Scoring

Reopened inspections that are completed are marked as Completed (Late) and are included in both the Status page and Reports as regular completed periodic inspections.
